Decoding Personal Care Products: Avoiding Toxins in Everyday Products

It's an undeniable fact that nearly every person on the planet has a body burden of chemicals. It’s an area of wellness that often goes overlooked, but what you put on your body is just as important to your health as the food and supplements that you put in your body.  With so many exposures that we can’t avoid, it just makes sense to control what we can. But sadly, even most naturally branded products still contain highly questionable ingredients. This presentation will cover the most common offenders in personal care products, including several regrettable substitutions in products positioned as better for your health. You’ll leave with information that will empower you to make the safest possible choices for yourself and your family.

About the Speaker:

Sharon Mahan is a nontoxic living advocate helping families to simplify their healthy lifestyle choices. She has an MBA in Marketing and 7 years of corporate marketing experience, but it is her life experiences that drive her passion for educating on the topic of environmental toxins. After experiencing infertility and parenting a child with multiple special needs, Sharon began to question ingredients in the products she brought into her home. At the time there were virtually no safe options, as even naturally branded products still contained questionable chemicals. In 2014 at the age of 43, Sharon was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, with no known genetic risk factors. Her interest in environmental toxins was reinvigorated, and she began educating others on the topic. She recently founded the Society for Ingredient Detectives, an online community for likeminded individuals looking to make the safest possible choices.  Sharon thoroughly enjoys helping families make lifestyle changes intended to reduce body burden of harmful chemicals.

Sitting: A Public Health Crisis (with a solution)

The twin problems of sitting (back pain and the metabolic consequences of sitting disease) will be briefly outlined.  Several possible solutions are then explored.  Active sitting is proposed as the best current solution, and a particular implementation of active sitting is described.

You will Learn:

  • Sitting is unavoidable, but current sitting options are responsible for back pain and sitting disease
  • Yoga balls fail to solve the problem and standing desks actually contribute to the problem of sitting disease
  • Active sitting is an attractive option when sitting is unavoidable.

He went on to study plastic surgery at the prestigious Albert Einstein College of Medicine, which included training in every aspect of cosmetic, reconstructive, and hand surgery.

Why Health and Wellbeing Has Nothing to do with Fitness?

In today’s modern world people have the image of health and wellbeing as being physically fit. The person who is skinny and looks good is not necessarily the ideal poster of health and wellbeing. There is so much more that goes into health and wellness.  It’s everything from our food, to activities, to our mental health.

I believe living a real food lifestyle is much more than just eating actual food. It’s about learning to treat our bodies with kindness and respect; while finding ways to make our lives simpler, less stressful, and happier!

It’s time for all of us to learn how to create a healthy state of mind. Being aware of mental and physical health makes you healthier in all ways.

We live in a world of busy-ness. Running to and from meetings, calls, appointments and projects all day long. Often with very little attention to the present moment and how we feel. We often forget about ourselves. And I am not alone. I am certain those reading this can relate.

Remember when we were kids and the sky was the limit?

We could do anything, we didn’t have time constraints, we didn’t have our creativity questioned. Most of the time, we did things because we loved them. This is what is called being Healthy. Being happy from inside, you.

As we grew older, things changed for most of us. For many of us, our creativity was squashed, our thirst for fun and new activities and knowledge was lost. And we no longer felt that we had time to enjoy the peace that comes with reflection and curiosity about the world and ourselves. We become so busy doing things that we think we are supposed to do what our most important relationship falls by the wayside and starts to wither, the relationship with ourselves and this amazing journey we call life… We can think of our personal attachment to our cellphones, we are constantly checking emails, social media and text messages. What use is your mobile phone when the battery dies??

The importance of health and wellbeing for women led businesses. The number of women entrepreneurs has catapulted in recent years with female moguls owning 39 percent of the 28 million small businesses around the United States according to a recent SCORE study

If you are a woman experiencing depression, an anxiety disorder, or another mental health condition, you are not alone.

According to a recent survey by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 29 million American women, or about 23 percent of the female population, have experienced a diagnosable mental health-related disorder in the last year alone. And those are just the known instances.

Experts say that millions of other cases may go unreported — and untreated.

I do not want women to waste years, and even decades, of their lives being unhappy. Struggling with who they are and what value they bring to the world. Dealing with body shame, unresolved issues from the past, self-loathing, and all the rest of the things I see women struggling with. Things I’ve struggled with.

You bring more to the world than you know. You are strong. You are beautiful.

And you are worthy. Deep inside you, there is a woman just clawing to get out. And you will love that person when she is released. Because you fought to become her.

We make time for our meetings, we make time for appointments because we know that it is important. In the same way it is very important to find time for yourself to find what makes you happy. Be happy and stay fit.

Think… What makes you happy??

Unlocking the Brain's Potential to Reduce Stress

Empower yourself as you learn about how stress can affect both your body and your brain. There are many aspects of our daily environment and lifestyle that can contribute to our conscious stress as well as unconscious stresses on our bodies. During this lecture, Dr. Taronté Venable will discuss how the natural, non-invasive, functional neurological techniques he practices can address the root of your problems rather than treating the symptoms with drugs or surgery. About the Speaker:

Taronté E. Venable, DC, DACNB, CES, PES is a passionate practitioner of alternative medicine with the ultimate goal throughout treatment to treat the ailment and the root cause of the problem by discovering what predisposed the body to the injury. As a chiropractor, he practice diversified adjusting techniques with knowledge and experience of how to appropriately utilize functional neurology, functional movement patterns, corrective/performance exercise, resistance bands, kettle bells, tool-assisted soft tissue, manual soft tissue, pin and stretch techniques, myofascial release, nerve flossing, performance taping, PIR, flexion distraction, ultrasound, electric stimulus, cold laser, shockwave, hot packs and cold packs.

Dr. Venable aspired to be a physical therapist shadowing physical therapy physicians in 2008 to 2009 while completing his undergraduate studies. After graduation he immediately began working as a personal trainer, Maryland state certified chiropractic assistant and rehabilitation specialist at an out-patient physical therapy and chiropractic practice from 2009 to 2012. At the same time, Dr. Venable also worked as a physical therapy technician at an in-patient hospital from 2009 to 2012 as he learned about both acute and chronic care in both facilities and was first exposed to stroke patients. Yoga Sculpt: Sculpt Your Body, Mind, and Spirit

This lecture is an informative talk of the benefits of Hot Yoga Sculpt. It raises awareness of why it is so important to stay in shape, what it even means to “stay in shape,” and how this practice plays into that.

You will Learn:

  • Mental health is just as important as physical health and the 2 are intertwined. While yoga sculpt focuses more on body, it wears it out so much that once you finally reach your mat in shivasana (the final resting pose), you feel yourself mentally open up, and it helps you access your spirit- that essence that is you behind all the distractions. Yoga sculpt, just like yoga, is the balance between body, mind, and spirit.
  • Yoga is a practice—not a test. There are no rules—only guidelines. There is a modification for every pose and you can practice whichever version and to whatever depth feels right in your body, it’s different for everyone.
  • There are so many misconceptions in yoga- you have to be flexible, your pose has to look like that person’s,… In yoga, we practice mindfulness (nonjudgmental awareness)- everyone is too focused on their own balance and pose to care if you fell out of yours. If you fall out, no big deal! Laugh it off, and get back in- nothing happened.

About the Speaker:

Hi! My background is in film and everything stressful.
